Berry Stable c. 1860 is the perfect romantic, country escape. The stable has glorious views of the surrounding countryside, donkeys and a Chinoiserie inspired interior that will surprise and delight. Decor includes Versailles parquetry, vintage Chinese embroideries, wallpapers and mid-century furnishings. Every detail has been thought of to transport guests to another time and place. Set in the former goldfields town of Taradale, the stable is a salute to the region's Chinese history and is just a short drive into Castlemaine or Kyneton.
Named after the original owner, Godfrey Berry, a much loved member of the Taradale community who established the original house, garden and stables in 1860. Berry Stable has since been fastidiously restored by the current owner, an artist and lover of design. If you are looking for somewhere luxurious and romantic in a gorgeous little country town then this may be the place for you.
Donkey and sheep meet and greets by arrangement. Please book ahead with one week’s notice. Children are welcome but please call ahead to discuss bedding arrangements. Well behaved pooches that can be kept under control around livestock and wildlife are welcome to visit. Please call ahead to confirm.
Activities in the area include OxArt Pottery Studio workshops, Sutton Grange and Bress Wineries and the Cascade rock pools. There are also lovely walks around Taradale. The Stable is roughly five minutes to Malmsbury and fifteen minutes to Kyneton or Castlemaine.
Taradale is part of Mount Alexander Shire. The Dja Dja Wurrung are the traditional owners of the region. We respect and acknowledge the vital role of the the Djaara people as the custodians of the area where Hillplains is located.
