Big Vine House, is an architect-designed, mud brick home situated on a working vineyard, Zig Zag Winery, located outside the lovely village of Malmsbury in the Macedon Ranges on Dja Dja Wurrung Country. Flophouse is lucky enough to have this listing while the owners, Henry and Harriet and their young family spend a few years in France working on a sister winery to their award-winning Zig Zag Winery. The house is very spacious with the most exquisite views over the vineyards and Bell Topper forest. You feel you could be anywhere from Tuscany to the South of France and the house welcomes you with personal touches everywhere combined with Flophouse signature quality linen, Aspar body products and locally sourced hamper.

In winter it is magical to light the fire and curl up with a good book while your mind may occasionally journey over the surrounding hills. Cook up a feast in the country kitchen or order in meals care of the Flophouse Team or a Daylesford Gourmet picnic or grazing board if you feel like dining al fresco with a bottle of Zig Zag wine. Adding to the experience, there are complimentary wines and wine tasting at the cellar door, especially for Flophouse guests. Guests can also purchase their favourite wines from either the cellar door or the house from the menu provided. Your stay is made all the more special by knowing that this idyllic place is only five minutes from Malmsbury and fifteen minutes to Kyneton, Daylesford or Castlemaine.

There are four bedrooms with two upstairs and two downstairs. The upstairs master bedroom has a king bed, a separate ensuite and a “parent's retreat” living area that includes an additional single sofa bed. The king bed in the other upstairs bedroom can also be split into two adult single beds on request. A children’s playroom adds to the appeal and the views from upstairs are spellbinding. Downstairs there is another full bathroom with a bath, two queen beds and a very spacious open-plan living and dining area. Heating and cooling are via a split system, ceiling fans and a cosy wood fire in winter that ensures this mudbrick sanctuary is a true home away from home.

For those travelling with children, tiny or teenage, the house was the owner’s family home until recently and as such comes with two additional single beds, two extra porta cots and kid-friendly (or pet-friendly) gates to prevent toddlers (or pooches) from escaping. Flophouse is happy to assist with designing a kid-friendly itinerary. If you're coming with friends please talk with us about catering options so that you can stay in and enjoy the country farmhouse.

Big Vine House is accompanied by Little Vine Caboose, a restored vintage train carriage that sits approximately 20 metres away and sleeps an extra couple. The caboose can be booked together or separately for an additional $200 per night. Either way, you will be rewarded with a sublime stay, enjoying panoramic views over the vineyard and the chance to truly unwind, just over an hour away from the big smoke.  Big House is the perfect place for a friend's get-together or family vacation. Dogs are also welcome by arrangement but must be contained and kept away from the vines due to biosecurity issues.

Drummond is part of the Hepburn Shire. The Dja Dja Wurrung are the traditional owners of the region. We respect and acknowledge the vital role of the traditional custodians of the land on which Zig Zag is located. This region is widely known for its spa culture and tourism.

“We have loved living here and are very sad to be leaving for a few years whilst we set up a sister vineyard in France. Apart from the gorgeous panoramic views of our vineyard and the Belltopper forest behind, we adore nature and love the riot of noise you get here only from frogs and birds and other wildlife. Otherwise, it's quiet and deliciously dark at night. We recommend leaving the blinds up to get your proper nature hit!”, Harriet and Henry, December 2023
