Top Tips for a Mid-Week Stay
Walk like a Local
You may wish to start your day as many locals do with a walk. If staying in or near Kyneton the Campaspe River Walk starting at the Botanical Gardens is a popular spot. Dogs allowed off lead between 7.30 – 10am. From Chewton and Glenluce, there are many walking trails to choose from along the Victorian Goldfields Track. For Trentham guests the Domino Rail Trail from Trentham to Lyonville is the perfect way to start the day.
Wellness
If you don’t want to leave your exercise routine behind, then there are a range of options from Yoga classes at Trentham Neighborhood Centre or Yoga Living in Castlemaine to Pilates at The Good Self in Kyneton or indoor/outdoor bootcamps at Outland Fitness also in Kyneton. Our top tips for massage are Maiaveda Day Spa, in Kyneton or The Green Store in Trentham.
Provisions
Watt’s Fresh for fresh fruit and veg and Hardwicks in Kyneton for meat and poultry. Gordon from South Coast Seafood also makes weekly trips to Kyneton on a Wednesday and can be found at the rear of Piper Street Food Co. Ruby Goose Food in Trentham is your one stop shop for local produce and Harvest at the Mill in Castlemaine offers organic produce. Banks Fine Wine is your one stop wine shop in Kyneton.
Activities
Kyneton Community House, Trentham Neighborhood Centre and Castlemaine Neighborhood House all offer a broad range of classes and activities. Kyneton Community House also hosts a community lunch on Wednesdays that is available to all for a cost of $5 per person. There are a big variety of workshops in the region from pottery to furniture making. We recommend you check out Oxart Pottery, Phoebe Everill Furniture, Pod Jewelry and The Old Auction House. Visit the Alchemist for all your Art Supplies needs.
For Local Mid-Week Dining Options
For good pub meals served Monday to Friday we recommend the Kyneton Hotel, Pig and Whistle Hotel, Trentham and the Railway Hotel in Castlemaine. Why not discover all three at the end of a day exploring each of the three towns? For a magical destination you must go to Radio Springs Hotel In Lyonville. They are currently hosting Date Night on Tuesday nights and a Sri Lankan menu on Thursday nights with a guest chef from Melbourne.
Entertainment
The Theatre Royal in Castlemaine screen movies midweek. Major Tom’s host regular trivia nights and a Tenx9 Storytelling Night in Kyneton once a month.
Bookstores
Squishy Minnie in Kyneton is arguably the best children’s bookstore in Australia and Aesops Attic caters for the adults. Castlemaine is home to a large number of bookstores and literary events. Our pick is Stoneman’s Bookstore in Moyston Street but their website is down currently. Here is a guide for all bookstores in Castlemaine.
