Shoefitter’s House is located just off Piper Street in Kyneton. From 1851, Kyneton was part of the goldfields explosion and became a service town for the region and has long been known for its hospitality. In recent years it has also become known for fine dining and artisan shopping. If you feel like adventuring beyond Kyneton, there are many walks to explore, wineries and European gardens. We respect and acknowledge the vital role of the Taunurung people, who are local custodians of the area where Shoefitter’s House is located.

This beautifully renovated three-bedroom Victorian cottage in the heart of Kyneton, less than one block to Piper Street, is now a luxurious lodging. Two queen bedrooms and one king bed that can be split into two singles on request. The modern bathroom boasts a freestanding bath and Shoefitter’s contemporary kitchen is stacked with all crockery, cookware and appliances. There is a gas fireplace and central heating.

Like all Flophouses, Shoefitter's has a story. Originally home to a Kyneton Cobbler, the house is now owned by the great granddaughter of Frederick Henry Hardy, Master Bootmaker and owner of Hardy and Son (Footfitters) Ltd at 60 Baker Street, London.

"My great grandfather, passionate about shoes, wrote a book on “Modern Shoe Retailing” published in the 1950s My uncle has an original manuscript with Frederick’s mark-ups and also found a letter from a GP in 1958 complaining about the impact of modern footwear on young women's feet!"

Kyneton is part of Mount Macedon Shire, which sits over the lands of the Wurundjeri, Taungurung and Dja Dja Wurrung nations. As the traditional owners of the region, we respect and acknowledge the vital role of the local custodians of the region where Shoefitter’s House is located. Kyneton was part of the goldfields explosion from 1851. Later, it became a service town for the region and has long been known for its hospitality to travellers.
